Tonight, braving freezing drizzle, we gave the newly opened DAYALI - Richmond Hill a try.
Our party of 12 ordered the $368 'Prix Fix' banquet menu. Rather than an anticipated $40 per head all inclusive cost, our bill ended up to be $50 per person because the wait staff 'pressured' us into accepting an over-sized lobster which we have to pay quite a bit extra for! ( Menu allowed for a 5 pounder which they claimed to have sold out. Only larger sizes were available but at an additional $24 per pound! ).
Besides the acceptable Peking Duck, ALL cooked food were badly prepared. Either overly dry ( lobster, fried rice ), overly cooked ( lamb ), saturated with Cumin ( almost everything ) and tasted mediocre and bland ( frog, crab, fried rice ). The Dungeness crab sauteed with ginger and scallions, in particular, was the worst rendition I have ever tasted. Dull looking in presentation, smothered in thick starchy gravy and absolutely tasteless! Even the simple fried rice was a dry and over-cooked disaster! Manchu Wok can do a better job!
Lastly, service was non-existence! Communication with the staff was a problem due to language/dialect barrier. Dishes were mostly dumped on our table by the wait staff and left. No serving utensils were provided. Soup and Dessert soup were both presented in large bowls but once again, small serving bowls and spoons were omitted! Cannot recall the number of times one of us has to corner one of the wait staff for essential table ware! Overall, an absolute service disaster!
No way I am going to return!!
Better looking front-of-house than Warden flag-ship store
Peking Duck still OKAY!
Over-cooked, overly gamey and dry cumin saturated lamb.
Our over-size lobster...dry and mediocre tasting
Saturated with oil, this frog dish tasted one dimensional and bland
Horrible Dungeness Crab in both presentation, preparation and taste!
Pathetic fried rice. Dry and tasteless!
