my boyfriend and i went to baraka on friday, february 13th to celebrate valentine's day by eating too much. ;)
overall, i loved it and we had a great time. our server was a bit haughty at first, but he warmed up after a bit. his/the kitchen's timing was great, except that it took way too long for him to bring me my second glass of wine.
we sat at a two top against one of the walls; i was on the comfy banquette and my boyfriend in the chair. we were on an end, so i mostly didn't feel crowed.
i am desperately in love with the little tangine shaped salt and pepper holders.
the bread is super yummy, and they supplied plenty. the hummus that comes with it was great too, but we only got one tiny pot of it.
for two we ordered (based on reviews here and elsewhere and last minute):
pistachio goat cheese: super yummy! a little too sweet, but still delicious. came with breadstick things, but definitely needed bread, too.
some sort of eggplant salad: just okay, i can't even remember it. not bad, just not great. ridiculously small portion.
fava bean falafel: oh so good. i loved this. tender, crisp, flavorful. yogurt sauce with it was great. probably my favorite.
grilled squid with aioli and breadcrumbs: also great, BF's fav. very tender squid.
moroccan meatballs: very good, but not my favorite. they were tender and well spiced, but i'm not a huge meatball fan.
fries with harissa aioli: needed salt, but yummy. i kept wanting more aioli.
the beignets with jam: good, but not great. they were very well fried, but i wanted them to have more flavor. the marmalade was good, but a little too sweet i thought.
i am not a coffee snob at all, but i thought the espresso was wonderful.
my BF had a glass of sangria and thought it was a little watered down, but fine.
i had a glass of white wine (i forget what) and glass of syrah after that. i very much liked both.
total with tax and tip: around $105
