This is a place for a special occasion or a night out to see and be seen.
The interior design ranks among the best efforts found in Boston. Housed in the former Paine Furniture showroom, the new Davio's is large but very warm. Bar area is beautiful, esp. the various niches clothed in deep luxurious fabrics. The soft candles and lights add to the feeling of being enveloped and welcomed.
Wine by the glass and esp by the bottle was very expensive, rip-off mark ups on basic varieties. You'll do better to order drinks. Their specialty drinks are intesting but not cheap. We had cosmopolitans; they made them according to our specifications and they were great.
The food was excellent. Fresh bread basket and appetizer plate arrived as we were seated. The apps included white bean hummous, mariinated mushrooms and eggplant. Great compliments to the bread. Our table ordered minestrone soups and field green salads which everyone enjoyed. Our entrees - porterhouse veal chops, salmon and seafood pasta - were plentiful, fresh and absolutely delicious. We also ordered sides, asparagus & onion rings which were fine.
It was a busy Saturday night but the service was prompt and attentive. In all and including lots of liquor (!) it was a $300 evening but well worth it. You will spend big $$$ at Davio's but unlike many Boston venues, you will leave feeling it was worth it.
