Saw a couple of posts about Dave's down the page and it got me thinking about going. Just ate at Dave's for the first time on Sunday. I've lived in St. Pete for over five years but I think I always thought it was just some other smokey diner. With the new no-smoking law I'll try some more of these diner places in the future :-)
Anyways, Dave's was great, I think it's around 23rd Ave and 9th St N (can't call it MLK just yet) in St. Pete. We had some good onion rings and a burger and a order of eggs, homefries, and pancakes. All good for a diner, beats Denny's easily. Everything was well-made with that homemade feel to it, especially the crispy, herbed homefries.
The best part of Dave's was the atmosphere and service. The dining room is nice, well-lit, and spacious, not a cramped dingy diner like I thought. The place was packed with regulars and the servers and owner really worked the tables well with humor and attention. I'll definetely be going back more often.
