I don't know if such a thing as dark german chocolate cake exists or if it is merely a fudge cake with the coconut pecan frosting, but I am in search of a really good recipe for a rich dark chocolate cake to contrast with the traditional coconut pecan frosting. I have found that a slightly darker chocolate cake marries well the frosting. Is it better to toast the pecans and coconut first for the frosting? Anybody have a good recipe? Does anyone use brown sugar instead of white for the frosting?
