Darbar - Kew Gardens, Queens

Ok, I'll grant that you'd probably find the best Indian in Queens in Jackson Heights, but for those living in the Kew Gardens/Forest Hills area I wanted to recommend a personal favorite: Darbar (125-22 Queens Blvd.). It's actually run by the owner of Mehak on Leffert's, practically the same menu but this is more of a sit-down, dine-in place.

They have a traditional North Indian menu (Tandoori kebabs; chicken, lamb and seafood $7-12) -- but I tend to get the vegetarian: Vegetable Jelfrazi or Aloo Gobi w/ basmati rice and a side of plain Naan will run you around $9.00, fairly cheap in my opinion and usually one take-out meal will last you two days.

Anyway, they opened up this past December -- anybody living in Kew Gardens knows that Queens Blvd./Union Turnpike area is practically deserted when the courthouse closes, so they have their work cut out for them getting customers in the evenings/weekends. I've been a loyal customer since they opened, and in the interest of keeping a small restaurant open, I'd like to give them a mention.
