Those damn "tourist" places

Vic Serafin | Nov 29, 2001 11:38 PM

I often read the condescending dismissal of certain restaurants as "tourist places."

For example, in the lengthy Carnegie Deli thread, someone mentioned that it's filled with "Iowans," as though it's under quarantine.

This attitude both surprises and disturbs me, given the millions in donations that have come from outside the five boroughs in light of 9/11 and the city's fervert efforts to lure back these tourists and their wallets.

Flame away if you must, but as clogged as the sidewalks will be in the coming weeks, those people gaping at the tall buildings and lining up for the Rockettes are an essential part of what New York is.
