Damenzo's, the UC, and Rene G

Mugs | Sep 26, 200203:34 PM

I'd probably still be eating Taylor St. Italian only east of Ashland if not for Rene's posts last winter about Damenzo's. Last night four of us wanted a quick, good bite before the Springsteen concert at the United Center. Found a parking spot right in front of Damenzo's (no resident-only parking as east of Ashland, apparently). My three companions' eyes popped out at the size of the Damenzo's $2.50 pizza slice as it came right out of the oven and lapped over both ends of the plastic plate. All enjoyed the grub and the joint's odd charm: the Danny Aiello-like proprietor, the back back room bare but for folding tables and napkins, the hot pepper flakes and parmesan cheese in hand-tied baggies. Exactly the right place as far as time, cost, location, and early-Springsteen atmosphere. I can't wait to utilize Damenzo's during the Blackhawks' season, and I encourage others searching for a good slice on the West Side to eat at Damenzo's. Thank you Rene G and this board overall. Address, phone, and hours follow.
