A few days ago on the CA board, a new-to-me hound "noodle craver" asserted that he/she has had the best Viet noodle soups at Dalat in downtown SJ. After doing my usual web snooping, it seems that he/she is not alone in that opinion. Everything I've read on Dalat has been positive if not glowing, emphasizing the authenticity, thoughtfulness, and freshness of the food.
Here's a 2002 post from Ken Hoffman: [BROKEN LINK REMOVED]
Linked a 2003 Metro review below. Amazing that it's been around for nearly 30 yrs. now and has the distinction of being the second oldest Viet restaurant in San Jose. BTW, anyone know the oldest? Vung Tau isn't since it opened in '85.
Has anyone eaten there recently? I have a feeling it's still good if they're still chugging along, but I'd like to know more about the menu. What's the range of items and do they offer something here that other Viet places usually don't? Ken's report mentioned banquet food like quail, duck, chicken but I wonder if those are off menu items that need to be pre-ordered...Thanks for any info!
