Dakota: Decent steaks, don't go before a show

I made reservations to go to Dakota in Hollywood before a Wicked show. I especially asked for a 6:00 p.m. time, so we would have plenty of time to make the 8:00 p.m. show down the street.

We are the first ones there and seated at 6:00 p.m. We order by 6:15 p.m. The waiter was pretty friendly.

We order the cote de boef (ribeye for 2) with two sides (twiced baked lobster potatos, sweet corn). We then waited, waited, and waited. Shortly before 7:00 p.m., we decided to ask the waiter what was going on because we had a show to catch. It was ridiculous that we hadn't gotten our food since we were the first ones there and it had been 45 minutes. The waiter came out with two wedge salads from the chef for the delay.

At around 7:10 p.m., our food finally arrived. Having only 20 minutes or to to finish the food and head out, this was my impression. The steak was decent to good, but not as good as Ruth's Chris. The sides were so-so. First, there were tiny. Second, the lobster twice baked was not what I expected, and the sweet corn was okay.

All in all, not a place I would return to, and definitely DO NOT go there before a show. I should have went to Katsuya...
