Daily Grill Downtown - Pleasantly Surprised

Colleen | Jun 25, 200511:11 PM

OK, let me start this post by saying that I normally hold any chain restaurant with some disdain, especially the higher priced ones. But I was pleasantly surprised by the Downtown Daily Grill.

I moved downtown recently, and we don't have an overwhelming amount of choices for dinner (choices on my immediate block include an IHOP, Subway and Burger King!). So the Daily Grill opening was kind of a big deal, as it's only a couple blocks away.

I've been to a few other DGs (Bev Center, Studio City), and was always underwhelmed. Thought it was OK, nothing great. Overpriced, etc. etc.

But the downtown location seems much better. The food has been really, surprisingly good. In the last few times I've went, I had some delicious crab cakes (tasted very fresh, lots of crab meat), huge juicy hamburgers, yummy wedge salad, and a few other things.

The portions are so huge, my husband and I usually split an entree and an appetizer and get out for around $45 (including a couple martinis).
The drinks are strong, and not nearly as overpriced as the next-door Standard Downtown. In fact, our usual bill at Daily Grill has been about half our usual dinner bill at the Standard restaurant, and we leave feeling fuller.

I haven't been to their happy hour, but the happy hour prices (I think a few different selections at $2.95), seem good.
I know the Daily Grill doesn't have a great reputation, but the Downtown location is definitely worth a try.

p.s. atmosphere is much more clubby and upscale than normal locations... only complaint is that the music they play sucks!!
