While not food stories per se, eating and food references are woven into most of these episodes drawn from Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron set in the 1300s when bubonic plague decimated Europe. Written, translated and read by my friend Steve Siegelman, whose cookbook credits include The Pizza Bible, Mourad: New Moroccan, and The Pancake Handbook, the English version is meant to capture the flavor rather than a direct translation. For those of us missing travel to Italy, the regional accents in the Italian version bring some of that warmth home as we shelter in place.
