Daily Catch, North End

Finally tried the Daily Catch after all these years since I had my gift certificate on me. Not the best day tho after we'd wandered around George's Island then come to the non-air conditioned restaurant where we can't even wash our hands (no bathroom for those who don't know). We really should have gone some place with AC, everyone was trying to find the best air flow when they sat down. In any case, we ordered the calamari plate and a pasta dish w/ shrimp, scallops and broccoli. I can now smell again and taste is almost back but not in full effect, good enough to know that the pasta dish was the standout of the meal ($19.50). Served in the pan they cook it in, fair amount of food, 3 shrimp and maybe 7 decent sized scallops. It was served at the same time as the calamari plate which I assumed was an app. Whatever, that consisted of fried calamari, calamari salad, calamari meatball w/ sauce and fries ($16.50). The meatball was kind of spongy but tasty, salad I assumed would be grilled calamari for some reason but wasn't, it was okay. I had seen everyone here rave about the fried but it wasn't that great, batter was on the dark side, not super crisp. I've definitely had better at Sonsie and many others I can't think of right now. If ordered on its own, it was $9.50 so not a bargain. I think the waitress was too hot, lots of dropping things and the cook knocked a table and spilled water. It couldn't have been fun working there and it was only 5:30 at that point, they had the whole nite ahead of them. I know people say the Fan Pier location isn't as good, but that may have been the better choice for this afternoon.
