I was wandering around Little Tokyo for the first time recently and happened to spot Daikokuya. Remembering all the great reviews on their ramen a while back, I had to try it. I wasn't disappointed. The broth was thick and rich, the noodles were nice and chewy and the pork was delicious.
So how does it compare to Shin Sen Gumi? I think the broth has a little more flavor and the texture of the noodles is a little bit better. Also, I like the customization of the noodles/broth/oil. So, as tasty as the ramen at Daikokuya was, I have to admit that Shin Sen Gumi comes out on top for me. But when I'm in downtown LA, Daikokuya is a darn good substitute.
