My husband and I took a quick day trip to Philadelphia hoping to have lunch at Dahlak in West Philadelphia. We trooped all the way there under the hot sun only to find that they are not open for lunch. So, we headed over to Abyssinia on South 45th Street and ordered several vegetarian dishes (lentils in berbere sauce, collard greens, salad,yellow split peas, etc). We were very dissapointed. The portions were ridiculously small and the flavors a bit muddled. I've eaten Ethiopian food many times in many different cities and I would say that Abyssinia is not worth a visit.
Fortunately, the beers at Monk's Cafe (back bar) and at Ludwig's Garten helped to save the day.
