My favorite is at Halmae Restauarant. The Korean name is Halmae Jib, which means "Granma's House". I heard a former Korean president ate at this hole in the wall. They have a neon sign of the dish, in their window, so they must be somewhat proud of it.
I think they stirfry the paste w/ some sesame seed oil before adding water? And they put fresh perilla leaves in towards the end. Comfort food for me at its best.
