(Bensonhurst) Went last night. My hopes were so high. Alas, I was disappointed! I was so excited for the experience, and felt so bad for the owner, that I didn't accept the fact that it was a less than positive experience until this morning.
The food was pretty good. I found the lasagne, as mentioned by CH's to be excellent. My husband, on the other hand, was not impressed. It was loaded with beef (not ground) and sausage.
The cold antipasto and polenta w/gorganzola app. were very yummy.
I tried a duck breast special, and was disappointed. Maybe duck is just too chewy a meat for me. It could have been better.
Italian cheesecake was tasteless and coffee was weak.
The highlight, of course, was the wine. The owner picked one for us. "Nu Har" form Sicily. Delicious.
I did enjoy the singing - both showtumes by an older woman and an aria by the owner. My husband, on the other hand, was less than impressed.
The service was pretty abyssmal. I poured our own water, and asked four times to speak with the owner about wine. I think since they were not busy, they were in no rush to turn our table. The bill came to $130 for the two of us, including a cheaper bottle of wine.
Maybe we'll try it again on a night when more people are out, and with a large group. I felt so bad for the owner. He really loves what he does, and I wish he had more success. I really want it to work out for him.
