I was drinking a Spaten Optimator, recommended by the Belarus bartender, as they had no Kostritzer.
After that, a customer arrived, who is native to the West coast and wanted an IPA. The limited US offerings did have Ommegang, but also Peak Organic.
Now the gentleman who hailed from the west coast informed me of something I had forgotten. The intense hoppy-ness of IPA is due to the brewers in England adding extra hops for the voyage to India.
So thanks to the colonial rule, we have one good thing that came from it, barring all else that was bad.
That is a good beer that has more alcohol and more hops, due to preserving it for the voyage.
With this forgotten piece of knowledge, I enjoyed the Organic Peak very much.
