Currysource in Boerum Hill

eeee | Dec 16, 2002 07:58 AM

I like Indian food a whole lot and was happy to see this little takeout store open up in the neighborhood, even if they don't heat up the food for you (something about it being cheaper to operate as a grocery vs. a restaurant.) Yesterday, I stopped by to get dinner. All the curries are 8 dollars, with basmati rice an additional 2.50, and the nan 2 dollars (I think.) I picked up a chicken tikka marsala and a basmati rice.

On the plus side, the chicken was mild but had a nice, complex spicy flavor. Even the rice included two cinnamon sticks. It took about seven minutes total to heat up my selections in my my microwave.

Now for the minus side. The portions are minute. I ate the entire meal and was still hungry for over an hour, at which point I gave up and ran out to buy a bag of pretzels. 10.50 for a meal the size of an appetizer is just not good value. (And the menu noted that they'd recently increased the size of their curries - I can't imagine how big they were before!)

On the whole, I'd rather get my carne asada burrito at California Taqueria for 7 and have leftovers. Currysource is tasty but not worth the money.
