with a rotten cold virus, no suprise in this weather right? i ventured out in the gloom for some hot soup.
so may i rec the hot spicy menchanko at ONY? very good for a cold tho not really all that spicy. it has a variety of cabbage, ramen noodles, chicken meatballs and wicked looking head-on shrimp and was very good--not that i really could taste any of it but the hot soup broth and the spice was enough to help fix my cold. fyi--their new spring cold noodle dish specials looked real good too.
craving more spice i looked for the NY DOSA cart but they were not out in this messy dampness. so i went for the KATI ROLLS shop on macdougal instead. i had two aloo masala rolls ($6). when i implored the proprietor to make it extra spicy he said,"everything is hot&spicy here." well, again they were sorta spicy but not all that. otherwise, they were pretty good. crunchy potato, sauted onion and curry inside the tortilla/dosa-like rolled pancake. i ate one warm and one cold later on, just fine and filling both ways.
the verdict? these are both good spots to keep in mind when in need of a cold cure, expect good cheap food, but do not expect firey heat. however, in good weather the NY DOSA guys give you that.
