Saturday I took the chowpups and two of their friends (who are BAD EATERS) to the valley on an expedition for what I promised to be the best hot dog they'd ever eaten. We headed to Victory and Tyrone, the stand that had been virtually unchanged since my valley childhood only to find it had been RAZED! With Cupids flattened and 4 starving kids I made my way down Van Nuys Blvd. thinking we'd head on over to the Wiener Factory when the kids spied the Cafe 50's and threatened to riot if I didn't pull over. Actually they were great to the kids there and I had a decent patty melt with very good coleslaw.
I also made a stop at the Food Bazaar (as touted by this board) on Fulton and Burbank. Wowzie! Got tons of groovy stuff-rose syrup, turkish delight, a wonderful yogurt shallot dip, frozen pierogi, frozen cheese and smoked salmon blintzes...and could have done a lot more damage and plan to soon. Also note they have prepared foods (although no printed menu) a bakery counter and a butcher counter which looked pretty swell.
