Cubano from Paladar

lmarie | May 14, 200802:47 PM

Got a cubano to go from Paladar on Kearney street yesterday, and it was fabulous.

All the ingredients are clearly top quality. Delicious baguette, the entire sandwich was slightly toasted in an oven, but not to the point of melting the cheese. A fairly modest amount of shredded pork, which was lean and had an excellent pork flavor. Very thinly sliced ham. This is the dark ham (is this Black Forest style), (as opposed to pale pink ham). Thin slices of swiss cheese, and also thin slices of pickle. mayo and dijon mustard. The sum is much greater than the parts - I assure you that it tastes much better than my description.

Came with a lightly-dressed mixed green salad, and a few pieces of pickled red onion, with whole peppercorns and the taste of coriander. $9 plus tax.

By the way, having read about the half sandwich and soup take out special on this board, I asked the woman if it was available. She said she has that special occasionally, on a random and ad hoc basis.
