Just saw the film Chef and now am dying for a good Cuban Sandwich. Other than Paseo, which I am very familiar with, where can one find a good traditional Cuban in the Puget Sound area?
I still haven't tried them, but there's a Cuban place called Cafe con Leche http://www.cafeconlecheseattle.com/ in SoDo that has the.
Bongo's on Aurora might work? I haven't had their Cuban, but am working my way through the rest of their menu, and it's darn good. Another place that sells cubans that I haven't tried the cuban at but have liked other things is El Animal food truck.
The "Stuck Junction Saloon" in downtown Sumner makes the best Cubano sandwich I've ever had. The chef researched the proper crusty bread and it shows. Everything at Stuck Junction Saloon is made from scratch--no Sysco dreck. A Puget Sound gem.
We were in the same spot re: Chef and nothing was hitting the mark... then recently we found Geo's Cafe at Shilshole and their recently opened food truck. Real Cuban guy serving Cuban & Creole-inspired fare. The Cubano is excellent, and IMHO the Traditional Lechon or Pan Con Lechon are to die for. Love the Tostones and Moros as well, not that you have any room after eating a whole sandwich.

We live on the Eastside but are making time to come here at least once a week.
