Cuba Libre is usually one of those hit or miss places on service, but I've found it consistent in terms of the meal itself. You could always count on the Mojito being refreshing and the meal being rich, flavorful and tasty. Not so, last night.
We stopped in for a casual bit and were disappointed throughout. We got the classic, "we have a table, but it will just be a minute" wait during which they expect you to order drinks at the bar. We were seated upstairs and it took 15 min. to be greeted, at which time the server said "sorry, I thought you were someone else's table." He had passed by several times.
As for the meal - the mojitos were watered down. The fire/ice tuna appetizer was decent. I got the $18 oxtails "Roba Encendido" which promised a "fiery" red wine sauce. The meat was too tough and the red wine sauce was bland and quite far from fiery.
We'll probably go back, but not for a while. Next time we're craving Cuban, we'll try Habana or Alma de Cuba.
