CT-Szechuan Tokyo-brief review

Hi...this place isn't far from me and I've heard great things about it...even though (to me it looks pretty skanky outside)...
The food was decent but the service was SUPER SLOW and we were a party of 3 on a Tuesday night at 6:30....and we had to flag down the waitress after 20 minutes of staring at the menu, to get to place our order.

They messed up and brought out 1 wrong item but apologized. Also they didn't time things right so one of us was done with our entree before the others were even served. What else? I noticed other tables had tea on them but it wasn't on the menu nor was it offered to us...that was disappointing.

Additionally, I checked out their website menu ahead of time and there are items on it that are not on the menu that was provided to us. I can't figure that out but I also noticed that other diners had different (bound) menus from ours....which were laminated sheets of paper.

anyway...I did enjoy my food which was mostly appetizers: miso soup was great, beef gyoza great, scallion pancake great...
Steamed veggie dumplings...not so good. Butterfly in West Hartford does them better and the General Tso's (which I don't like anyway) looked like nasty pieces of chicken.

I'd appreciate your feedback on this place which I've always been told is great.
thanks...I love chowhound!
