Every year we have a fun holiday bake off at work. There are lots of good bakers and a very friendly rivalry. I have won more often than not but not in the last three years.
In fact, none of the "good bakers" i.e. scratch bakers who use really butter and chocolate and fruit have won in the last three years. Why? Because the all butter yeasted stolen, the Valrohna chocolate cake with port figs, the flourless pistachio cake, the sour cherry pie, and the delightful little butter cookies keep getting trounced to Semi-Ho "assemblages."
Last year the winning dessert was Ritz crackers brushed with margarine and cinnamon sugar. The year before it was pudding mix and Cool Whip in a purchased pie shell studded with whole Oreo cookies.
Depressing. Did I mention the judges changed three years?
So although I can't stand the idea of a Semi-Ho anything, I am willing, perhaps, a little bit, to pander.
So, what do you suggest I make to appeal to the palate of a three year old, while keeping some sense of chowish dignity? One additional judge is being added to the mix with a decent palate.
I want to WIN.
