Just returned from 2 1/2 weeks in Croatia and Italy. The highlight of Croatia for me was Dubrovnik. The first glimpse of the old town at night is magical. Stayed at Grand Hotel Argentina---quite a nice place overlooking the Adriatic about a 15 minute walk from the old town. Fish is a speciality in Dubrovnik and can be quite expensive because prices are by the kilo. Mussels and a small whitefish often fried are inexpensive and good. Wines are good especially Grk and Posip. Thanks to posters we did go to Buza bar--breathtaking view. Other restaurants Atlas Club Nautica---great location, full of tourists, great grilled bream. Proto---in old town, satisfactory dinner, moderate. Kamenice--outdoor restaurant off the main square, good food, reasonable prices. Don't miss having a drink on the terrace of Gradska Kavana. I loved the vermouth served with lemon.
Also went to Korcula, Split, and Hvar. Hvar is a scene. Don't miss the club Carpe Diem and eat in Palaca Paladini--lovely garden where we had a delicious grilled fish platter. Split is seedy. Cabdrivers can be rude, people selling ferry tickets can misinform you on purpose about schedules. Beware of this and have fun if you go.
