Crixa's pumpkin pie

susabelle | Oct 23, 2003 08:20 PM

Being relatively new to chowhound-ing, not sure if I should add this to the pumpkin thread below or start a new one. Some days (maybe a week or two)back, someone posted, asking about where to get a good pumpkin pie for a child's birthday. In the meantime, I'd read some posts raving about pastries at Crixa's in South Berkeley, on Adeline, near Berkeley Bowl. I tried it myself and loved it (esp. plum--really prune--pastry called kifli, apple cake, apple pie, poppyseed rugelach). I wondered aloud in a posted reply to the mom of the birthday girl about whether they (Crixa) would be doing a pumpkin pie, since everything else was so terrific. Today, I went in, and sure enough, there it was. And it was--superlatives always risky--maybe the best pumpkin pie I've ever had: perfect crust, rich, sweet-but-not-too-sweet, full pumpkin taste, creamy. I had one of those almost painful experiences, where with each delicious bite, you realize that soon it will be gone!
