I just discovered this website and am very impressed with the quality and scope of the info available. I'd like to ask you for help. My husband and I will be in Balto for a week in Feb and I always seem to have problems finding enough really great restaurants. I must say I tend to be extremely critical. I'm looking for really creative cuisine and prefer exquisite flavors, exceptional presentations, and if possible, many small courses. I also really love restaurants that put just as much thought into the sides that are served with the meat, and I've been known to order entrees based solely upon these accompaniments. Price is not an issue.
In the past I've truly loved Spike and Charlie's when they first opened - now Bicycle seems the closest to what S&C used to be. Hampton's in the Harbor Court has always been consistantly top-notch. Charleston was fine the one time I went - but wasn't exciting enough to make me want to return. Ditto for the Purple Orchid. I've dined at The Brass Elephant on numerous occasions with others who really like it, but again I don't find it stimulating enough. Joy America was exciting the first year or two, but rapidly descended with poor service/management and SouthWest cuisine (which I dislike). Last year we tried Vespa and Ten-O-Six; neither were very impressive, with Vespa being an outright disapointment. Every time I've enjoyed the pasta and entrees at Sotto Sopra, but I haven't been there in 2 years. A few years ago we dined at The Black Olive, which was good but I felt it was overpriced. (If I'm paying that much I want better decor and ambiance.) Marticks had about the best bouillabaise I've ever tasted, and I'm definitely planning to dine there again this year.
So, are there any new exciting restaurants, or old one that I've overlooked? Thanks so much for your help.
