We knew we would be in Tribeca on Sat and wanted to eat at Locande Verde. I called a few times during the week to see if there were any cancellations but there were none. We knew we would be down there by 6PM and the hostess assured us we could wait for a table and at that time it shouldn't be too long. One of the people we were with also knew Andrew (chef) and Bob (part owner) but she did not want to call them in advance and try and work something out.
Anyway, got to the place around 6:00. The hostess said a table would be free in about 30-45 min. No problem. Having drinks at the bar we are starring at at least 3 open 4 tops. These tables sat open for 30 min until we approached the hostess to inquire if we could sit at one. "Those are reserved for our 7PM reservations". Now, we could have easily sat at one when we arrived and been done by 7. 7PM arrives and 2 of the tables fill up. We continue to wait at the bar and watch the other 4 top remain open. Now we have been waiting for over an hour and I realize we didnt have a reservation but..............By 7:15 I approach the hostess and inquire again about the open table or any others. "That table is being held for a 7:30 reservation". Now, we could have easily finished dinner in 90 min. At this point we had a few cocktails and were all pretty pissed. Not so much that we were now waiting 90 min but doing so starring at open tables is so frustrating. Also, the hostess was a complete snot who should have at least offered us a round of drink comped or some apps. My friend was calling bot Andrew and Bob through out this experience but could not get hold of either. After our last "discussion" with the hostess she told us to find somewhere else to eat as she didn't think any tables would be opening up that evening.
We left and went to Landmarc, sat down in 15 min and had a great meal.
Now I am not blasting Locande Verde for anything as we did not have a reservation however, these little 25 year old hostesses are on such a power trip it kills me.
Another adventure our in NYC. Few items to note, there is a Tequila cocktail that is fantastic as well as the Lamb Meatball Sliders.
I will go back, when I can get a reservation as the menu and atmosphere looked great.
