Craftbar Review

I went to Craftbar last night with 3 other people. I was hoping for a wonderful meal and was really disappointed. Our first clue should have been the broken air conditioning. It worked up front reasonably well, but in the back there was no air at all. We were warned about it, but based on the temp up front by the bar (they never said it worked better there than in the back), we decided to go for it. The lighting was so low we needed flashlight to read the menu. I ordered the grilled octopus as a starter. Everyone else had green salads. The octopus was fairly tasteless -- maybe that is why it came with mustard (or at least I think it was mustard, it was hard to tell). The salads were fine. I had the pork loin. One piece was hard to chew, the other all fat. Two others had the bluefoot chicken. It was overwhelmingly salty. The 4th had a pasta dish and I don't know what he thought about it. The deserts were, however, really good. I had the chooclate and banana gannosh (sp?), other people had the peach ice cream and straberry/blueberry short cake.

The service was really bad. Our starter came out in 10 minutes. It took an hour and a quarter for our main courses. And that was with the place half full. The waiter volunteered he would "do something for us" given the wait. When the bill came, nothing was done so we had to ask him what he was planning, at which point he comp'ed the deserts. Maybe it was because we had a different waiter for desert than for the rest of the meal. The first guy simply stopped coming by and another waiter ended up picked up the slack. It felt like the experienced managers/chefs were off at the beach for he weekend, leaving the place to a bunch of under-trained aspiring actors to run. Not a great idea. The space is really nice (although there might be more light), but the overall experience was really disappointing. Don't need to go back.
