Craft Bar is sensational. But could we get in on a Saturday night?
Last night, I talked a friend into going and figured that even on a Saturday night, we wouldn't have a problem snagging a table at 6:00. So I didn't eat lunch and worked up a bit of an appetite.
Success! The restaurant was empty, we had a wonderful waitress, and the whole atmosphere was decidely relaxed and comfortable. It turns out that we could have gone at 7:00 and still encountered a half-empty restaurant.
As with my other experience at Craft Bar, every vegetable was superb -- the salads (perfectly dressed), the accompaniments to the entrees, and the roast vegetables. My coppa, soppresata and pickled onion sandwich was rocking, and the ricotta fritters w/strawberries and strawberry ice cream remains one of my favorite desserts in New York.
The drink service is also flawless (even the iced espresso was wonderful).
My only cavil is that the entrees don't seem as special as everything else, especially the fish.
