Does anyone know WHY there is not a Cracker Barrel in So Cal/ Los Angeles? Love it or hate it, it doesn't seem fair that the closest one is in Phoenix...
Nope. None in California at all. Your best bet is Arizona. Try the Original Pancake House instead in Redondo Beach or Anaheim, you might like it even better.
How about we have tons of other mediocre national chains in LA already?
Others from back east have tried to crack the Market like Po' Folks and others and they have succeeded either.
I want to know why we don't have a Culver's, Home of the Butter Burger, here!
Also in San Diego, and we drive to Yuma every few months for our Cracker Barrel fix. I think a C.B., somewhere off the I-5, between LA and S.D. would be a huge hit.
There's also one in Kingman, AZ, if you're headed that way. I actually have them mapped!
"Does anyone know WHY there is not a Cracker Barrel in So Cal/ Los Angeles?"
Probably for the same reason there are NO Red Lobsters in Maine. (Too much competition?) Perhaps you should count your blessings.
Ha! Yeah, having a CB here would be a double-edged sword! Maybe it's best left that it's a treat if I happen to be in AZ or the south?
WHEN i MOVED TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN 1981 THERE WERE TWO CRACKER BARRELS THAT i KNEW ABOUT AND DID VISIT. ONE IN LAKEWOOD AND ONE IN CERRITOS. CRACLER BARREL MOVED OUT OF CALIFORNIA IN THE MID 1980'S.
It's not that hard to figure out. The climate and setting of Southern Cali does not fit that of Cracker Barrel's requirements. Everything seems to be compacted in LA when it comes to businesses, while I think Cracker barrel prefers open, expansive, and more of a "country" resembling setting, rather the desert or some cramped up shopping centers. They may build some in near Magic Mountain, and in that area, at say, a rest stop. But close around or even in the city of LA, forget it.
It has something to do with our good ole State of California wanting them to post a certain sign or not wanting them to post a certain sign is what I was told by a worker at Cracker Barrel. And Corporate refusing to do it.
There used to be a Cracker Barrel not far from me in Santa Ana CA. There are no Cracker Barrels in California because the Sacramento politicians make doing business in California too expensive and difficult to comply with the ever increasing regulations. Add Cracker Barrel to long list of businesses that have left the state.
Yeah I am from the South and California food wouldn't know seasoning if it smacked it in the face. Currently living in SoCal and been to most of the "southern" fare restaurants. Nothing like home. I miss CB but that is really just a chain in the south not the Soul of it.
Yes... I spoke to a manager at a Cracker Barrel in Virginia about 2 years ago and she told me why they left California and aren't coming back: When California passed the law that requires full state minimum wage to be paid per hour before tips, they left. Right now in California the minimum wage is $9.00.. if Cracker Barrel was still here they would have to triple the prices on their delicious food in order to survive financially. In the states, such as Virginia, they pay the servers $2.00-$3.00, plus their tips.
Not really sure... this is all just what the manager told me. I think I remember when we talked CA minimum wage was still $8. She said no way their corp would want to pay that as base pay and have their menu prices go up.Guess they consider their prices part of their selling point.
I wouldn't give my money to a business that treated the employees unfairly.
It should also be noted that in 2004, the US Justice Department, after a long investigation, found that the chain restaurant had segregated customers, seated and served white customers before black customers, and allowed for white servers to refuse to wait on black customers.
In 1991, 11 employees were fired for not displaying "normal heterosexual values," as was prescribed by an intra-company memo. Although founder Dan Evins later called this policy a "mistake," the attitude remains
Cracker Barrel not welcome in Cali!
Can u guys put a Restaurant in Los Angeles .ca food looks so good me and my family wants to try it
I was told by Cracker Barrel that they will never open any stores in California because it is extremely expensive to open up. Our taxes make it difficult for them as do our benefits, it's to bad I Love them to. You can order some things online but not the same as experiencing in store shopping.
When Karcher (Carls Jr/Hardees) moved their focus from California to Texas a few years ago their statement was that it was way too difficult to open stores in CA. I think I recall them saying that it took six months minimum to get through just the formalities for a location in CA (not surprising if you've ever tried it), and six WEEKS in Texas. California has had a horrible reputation for this kind of things for a very long time. Much of it is due to environmental rules (which can be good), but the end result is costly to business.
HA! Just opened one in Victorville, CA today! Another one to open in Sacramento, CA in May! Yay! Best decision ever!
Closet one is Vegas not Phoenix.... has anyone been to Golden Corral
Ypu have to pay a decent wage, a living wage if you will. If your food is so great, people will pay. This is not a slave state.
