Crab Sandwich at Palermo Deli in North Beach

steaklist | Dec 15, 200411:51 AM

Got a craving for a Crab Louie on my home last night and decided to see if a Crab Sandwich from Palermo Deli might satisfy it.

The San Francisco special is known as their signature sandwich: crab salad, roasted peppers, and monterey jack on focaccia and grilled. They were out of focaccia, so they suggested ciabatta.

The sandwich had lost it's heat by the time I stopped at Coit Liquors for an Anchor Steam and made it home. But even then, I could see the slice of jack wasn't melted. The crab salad was fair, and the sandwich as a whole was okay. Not great, but not bad. It did *not* quell my craving for crab, but I wasn't displeased with the results either. I was completely stuffed with only one half; couldn't even fathom eating the other half.

Sandwich was $8. A large "side" of pepperoncinis I requested was free.
