Off to The Counter last night after reading many reviews. The choices were a bit overwhelming, but my friend and I cheated by looking online during the day at the menu. I had the turkey burger with swiss cheese, sprouts, grilled onions, olives and peppercinis with the sundried tomato sauce. We also had the yam fries and onion strings which were good while hot, but seemed to get cold and thus soggy pretty fast. The yam fries were very tasty though. The dipping sauces were what made the fries and onion rings, in my opinion. We wanted to try the pickle chips, next time!
My friend had the chicken burger with goat cheese spread, dried cranberries, mixed greens, grilled red peppers and I forget the last one with the apricot sauce. The apricot sauce was pretty much apricot jam, which was good, but we didn't really care for it. I didn't try any of her chicken burger but she seemed to like it.
Overall I enjoyed my sandwich, it was very large, so I couldn't actually lift it up and bite it like a burger. The turkey patty itself, was a bit dry, even though it wasn't overcooked and it also didn't have much flavor - if they could just season it with a little salt and pepper that might do the trick. I had to rely on the different sauces from the fries and the toppings, to make it tastier. The sun-dried tomato sauce did not taste anything like sun-dried tomato. I should have gone for the spicy sour cream. All the ingredients I chose surprisingly went well together, I wasn't sure what to expect. We had the apple crumble at the end, which was a little bit too buttery but nonetheless yummy.
All in all, for a burger with whatever type of choices you could possibly want, this place would be it. I think next time I would try the beef medium rare, as it might be juicier. Also might give the chili fries a whirl.
I still prefer the burger at Father's Office, but not really a fair comparison as I didn't have the beef burger. =) Til next time . . .
