Ok. This has my knickers in a twist.

The place I work has a coffee-shop type restaurant, and they've just done something I find very bizarre: the restaurant manager said the laundry services bill was too high, so in response, the bar towels were locked up. In the liquor cage. I asked if the issue was theft and the mananger said no, towel USE was out of hand.

Said mgr. put out a few towels in the kitchen (for about 12 servers/bussers, 4 line cooks on duty) and said make do. I needed to clean up a mess in the lobby, and there were no clean towels, which is why I found out about this. I ended up using tissue paper and newsprint for the mess. I thought I'd seen it all, but....

Is this by any means SOP? restaurant workers, weigh in?
