Cosimo & Johnny's Pizzeria opened a couple of months ago in a free-standing space (previously a deli) on White Plains Road in Eastchester and the buzz has been continuous. Johnny's uncle is an owner of legendary Louie & Ernie's Pizzeria on Crosby Ave. in the Bronx which has been operating since the late 50's. Stopped in mid-afternoon and there was ongoing traffic: students and adults ordering slices and whole pies, a couple of calzones thrown in, too. I wanted a slice of white pizza with sausage and this is what makes this new pizza shop unique: Johnny pulls out a piece of foil and loose sausage meat, then throws lumps of sausage on the foil and puts it in the pizza oven to bake separately. Once the sausage is done he puts it on the heated slice. The result is crusty and delicious, and a big sized slice it is. The menu is limited and it is cash only, but good. I will be back...
