Last week, I was walking past my neighborhood Cosi franchise when it occurred to me that perhaps they sell their sandwich bread by itself. They indeed did, for $1.69 apiece.
By my own reckoning, for the cost of an $8 sandwich, you could by the bread and go to the grocery store and buy enough ingredients to make at least two sandwiches at home.
That's not to knock Cosi's meats and cheeses, but there's something nice about using your own toppings. (For example, I was able to enjoy a turkey sandwich with habanero cheddar cheese, a mail-order item discussed earlier on this board.)
