Restaurants & Bars 2

Out and about around Corvallis and Oregon

I'm staying here in Corvallis for a couple weeks, till August 4th, and would love some suggestions for things to do, places to go, and (of course) food to eat.

As for restaurants here in town, I've heard good things about Bombs Away Cafe and Big River, and I'm definitely planning to have a good meal at Le Bistro. Any others I should consider? I've looked at the menu for Le Bistro and have a feeling that I'll want everything. Is this the type place where you're best off asking the Chef to show off for you and go hog wild?

I have a good chunk of free time during the day on the weekdays (11am-4pm) and the evenings, so I'm looking for some shorter trips out, perhaps to a winery or a nice lunch, or a good drive through the country, maybe visit a berry farm. Empire Berry Farm was suggested in another thread. Any other suggestions for shorter day trips?

As for the weekend, I'd like to do some winery tours and exploration of the state, perhaps one day trip north towards the Columbia River Valley, and another trip south towards Crater Lake. Which wineries should I consider on these trips? Any can't miss places to catch lunch? Besides the Gorge and Crater Lake, are there any other natural wonders or attractions to hit?

Can you tell I wasn't able to do much planning for my free time on this trip? Sorry for so many questions -- I've never been to this part of the country before, and would like to explore as much as I can on this opportunity.

Thanks so much for suggestions or tips!

Blue skies,
