Cortina's Italian Market and Restaurant in Anaheim- LONG and a question.

First and foremost let me say that my DH and I love pizza. We're addicted. It's an illness, I know it and he knows it. We have pizza a couple times a week. During a "make it at home" phase I went through, we were eating it more than that, but I digress.

During a recent over night trip to Disneyland, my DH was having a big craving for a great pizza. We went to Cortina's on the recommendation of the bellman at the Anaheim Marriott. He called it "his place". A Big Shout out to Fred - Thanks Fred!! We'll always be in your debt.

The restaurant is small - You order and pay at the counter. The menu is posted on the wall. They call your name when the food is ready. Very friendly staff! We ordered a large New York style sausage pizza and it was the best pizza I've tasted since New York City. Very Fresh ingredients- somewhat "bubbly" crust that was cripsy and crunchy but not cracker like. Lots of cheese, but not greasy. Great and fresh pizza sauce, not too thick not too thin. This is a pizza that is so good it burns a hole into your consciousness. We had this pizza in mid-December and my DH still talks about it almost every day.

When we left the restaurant we went into their very busy Italian market next door- they have a full deli case with Boars Head deli meats and cheeses, wines, pastas, fresh baked bread, and a frozen food case that I didn't explore (I regret that!) We did try their canolli- they have the best canolli and Italian almond cookies I've ever tasted - so sorry Cavaretta's!!

On Sunday December 26, we went to Cortina's to have another pizza or two, to order several more to take home for the freezer, and to visit their incredible market. To our chagrin they were closed!

Now here's the rub. We live in the West San Fernando Valley- yes, we drove 104 miles round trip FOR A PIZZA!!

We can't wait to get back there-and we would have tried again last week had the weather been more cooperative.

BTW- does anyone have a recommendation for a great NY style pizza in the Pomona area? We're going to the bike show at the Fairgrounds this weekend and we'd like to try a good pizzeria out there. Thanks in advance!
