A couple weeks ago I dropped by Corridor Cafe for the morning bite. This is the breakfast and lunch grab-and-go component of the new Corridor space from the Hi Neighbor Group (Fat Angel, Stones Throw, Trestle). And the place is serious about the "go" part. There are a limited number of tables and seats outside in the deeply shaded, wind and cold of the Van Ness corridor; inside the limited counter space is for standing only with the exception of two high stools.
So for eating on the run, I tried:
Savory Cruffin, $3.75 - Most of the breakfast pastries are sourced from Firebrand, however, this one comes from the group's own commissary. Laminated croissant dough's twisted with cheese, prosciutto and chives then baked in a muffin tin. Crisp, buttery rich, and served warm, the way the thin shaving of ham is woven through the layers of flaky croissant was quite artful and delicious. For me this beats out the Cronut.
Cold Brew Coffee, $4.00/16 oz - Its website touts LaMill Coffee sourced from LA as 4th wave. I don't know what that is, but I can say that this was bitter and thin prompting me to add a spot of cream and sugar to give it some flavor.
Anyone else tried Corridor Cafe or its Restaurant?
