cornstarch -- ok to add to a marinade instead of at the end of a recipe?

Does anyone have any experience with this? I just cooked one of our favorite meals, which is an Asian-inspired chicken stir-fry. The recipe calls for a mixture of cornstarch and water to be added at the end to thicken the sauce. I forgot this time and served everyone before I realized it. I was wondering if next time I could simply add the water and cornstarch mixture to the marinade, reducing the chance that I'd forget that step. Does it matter when the cornstarch is added? Many thanks.
