Corned Beef Photography

The current exhibit of photographs at the Old Water Tower is worth a stop for corned beef fans and for others too. "Made in Chicago" comprises about 40 prints by 7 photographers on subjects ranging from Mr Bubble to Morton Salt to Radio Flyer to Lyon Healy Harps.

The media are very appropriate to the subjects. Loren Santow's hard edged black and white shots of S-K Hand Tools were among my favorites. Lorraine Hart contributed 3 large studio Ektachromes of Vosges Haut-Chocolate, as artsy and precious as the chocolates themselves.

Eric Futran has 7 black and whites shot at Vienna Beef and Manny's. The titles give a good idea what's in store: Cooking and Chilling Line, Briskets and Paring Knife, 15 Pound Brisket, The Guys Who Make the Corned Beef, Bringing Out the Briskets, Slicing at Lunch Hour, Montage of Conspicuous Corned Beef Consumption.
