Corned beef and cabbage

I am cooking corned beef and cabbage for a crowd but braising it in the oven rather than boiling. I wonder if I could do a quick boil of the carrots, cabbage, etc with the pickling spice and then roast them so that they have the taste of the pickling spice but are less cooked than boiling them? Or should I just roast them and forget about it!
