I'm a New Yorker, and grew up with corn muffins. Came to L.A. and corn muffins are suddenly scarce. Can anybody recommend good sources, especially in Hollywood or on the west side?
But the bigger question is: why are corn muffins hard to find here? I would never have thought of corn muffins as a regional thing. Who knew?
A friend from Indiana has a similar observation about cinnamon rolls. Yeah, Cailifornia has cinnamon bear claws, and there are some cinnamon-raisin danish around calling themselves cinnamon rolls, but where are the thick, raised, rolled-up cinnamon rolls of blessed memory? (With or without icing.) The best I've had in L.A. were sold at the Sunday farmer's market in Hollywood; I think they were from the Old Town Bakery but I'm not sure. I haven't bought any for a while and I think the last time I looked they weren't there.
Any recommendations? And any ideas why they're hard to find here?
