I have never invested much in plates since my husband breaks nicer ones at an astonishing rate. I do have a set of 'everyday' melamine plates that I absolutely love since my husband can't break them and for everyday they are a nice coral color and have a cute scalloped rim. Besides those and some cheap world market plain white stoneware plates I could take or leave, I don't have any 'nice' plates (not that I ever really host formal dinners).
I don't really need or want fine china, but I'd like something a tad nicer than just melamine plates. I did find a set of Corelle plates in a beautiful and just recently discontinued pattern (meaning they're on sale) that I love the look of. Now I know my mom has a set of Corelle from when she got married she uses daily, but my mom is very careful with stuff so it's no shock hers are in great shape. I'm careful too but my husband is not (and we plan on kids soon) so I need something more durable. I'd like to hear from those of you who aren't necessarily the most careful person ever how your Corelle has held up? Is it actually as hard to break as people say it is?
