Cool Stuff En Route from Dallas to Austin

Jim Leff | Sep 2, 201501:58 PM     42

I'll be driving from Dallas to Austin (and back again) in November, and want to take a long circuitous route and try lots of stuff. Can anyone:

1. suggest a route and itinerary, and/or
2. chime in with tips not ridiculously far off my track (I'm willing to deviate an hour or so at any point)

Food and drink are, naturally, top priorities, but cool landscape/architecture/cool scenes or activities (I'm from NYC, so what's boring to a Texan wouldn't be to me) would be welcome, as well.

I won't do more than a short stay in any one en route locale, so quick hits only, please.

Also: I don't need help for Dallas or Austin.

Thanks!
