On Tuesday night, my husband and I went to The Cookworks (www.thecookworks.com) for a class. (located at Queen and Dovercourt on Sudbury St. right beside (and managed by the Chef of) Mildred Pierce restaurant.
We received a gift certificate for a cooking class for two (value $130 each = $260) as a wedding gift. Not an inexpensive investment.
So we chose from a list of 30 or so classes mostly offered on weeknights for 3 hours (6:30-9:30).
We chose the "Other Fish in the Sea" class as I cook quite a lot at home already, and figured that adding fish to our repitoire would be fun.
There are about 12 people and 3 chefs in the class. We cooked (and ate) 4 dishes which were fantastic and fun to learn
--Seared Tuna on bed of Arugula
--Baked Artic Char
--Steamed Halibut in a Sri Lankan Sothy
--Braised red snapper
It was a fun experience and we enjoyed the time. We definately enjoyed eating the dishes at the end of the evening.
We both agreed that we wouldn't necessarily do that again for $130 each, but that we thoroughly appreciated the experience and the food.
