Went to Cookshop on Friday night. It wasn't terribly exciting and I have to say I'm surprised at the reviews it got on this website.
First, I'm not a huge fan of the decor. It seems really 'vanilla' and generic.
We started with the hominy and squid appetizers. Hominy was just ok - served with a juice-less lime on the side. Nothing exciting at all. The squid was a little better, but still fairly unexceptional.
I had the pork chop and my husband had the steak. My dish was cooked perfectly. The cabbage had a nice flavor - sweet yet tart. And while it was a tasty dish, it still managed to be a bit uninspiring. I feel like I've had a lot better in this city.
My husband had the steak with creamed collard greens and onion rings. This was VERY average. The steak tasted fine, the greens were really heavy and onion rings nothing special. Neither of us could believe this was the meal so many people were raving about.
For dessert we ordered the terrine of sorbets and ice cream sandwich. The desserts were very good - by far the best part of the dinner.
Overall, we had a nice time, but didn't feel 'wowed' by the food at Cookshop. It certainly won't be the place we frequent often.
