Cooking with a slow cooker - questions

LFR | Oct 1, 2004 11:19 AM

I am interested in buying a slow cooker and will go through this board for the recommended cookbooks on slow cooking.

What I want to know, before I buy it, is how can I alter my recipes for a slow cooker? For instance, I love Filipino chicken abobo and think it would be perfect for slow cooking. What do I do to the recipe to adjust it to this cooking method? Do I just add more water and how much more should I add? Is there a ratio of how much water to add for the cooking time? I was also thinking of making Indian chicken curries. Any info/advice would be very helpful.

Also any other dish ideas would be helpful. coq au vin maybe, I don't know. I just don't want to regret my purchase - space is very limited in my kitchen.
